This page is for users of Color Picker Extension — a Chrome tool for picking colors, copying HEX/RGB/HSL, building palettes, and scanning page colors.

Quick start

  1. Install Color Picker Extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open any regular webpage (not chrome:// pages).
  3. Click the extension icon in the toolbar.
  4. Use Pick from page to sample a pixel on the tab, or Pick from anywhere for the screen/desktop eyedropper.
  5. After you pick, the HEX code is copied automatically.

Keyboard shortcut

Default shortcut to pick from the current page: Alt + Shift + P

Change it in Chrome: chrome://extensions/shortcuts

Troubleshooting

Can’t pick on this page

Chrome blocks extensions on special pages such as chrome://, the Chrome Web Store, the New Tab page in some cases, and some PDF viewers. Open a normal website (http/https) and try again.

Pick from page does nothing on first click

Reload the extension once from chrome://extensions, refresh the webpage, then try again. Make sure the tab is a regular http/https page.

Pick from anywhere cancelled / closes

Press Esc cancels the eyedropper. Click Pick from anywhere again and click a pixel to confirm.

Colors not saving

History uses Chrome sync storage. Sign in to Chrome and enable sync if you want colors across devices. You can also check that the extension is not in Incognito without “Allow in Incognito”.

Shortcut not working

Another extension may use the same keys. Set a free shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Color history and preferences stay in your browser. We do not upload screenshots or browsing data to our servers.
